Getting Started
Do I need an account?
No accounts. No clutter. Your recipes stay on your device — you stay in control.
What’s the fastest way to add recipes?
If you already have recipes in Apple Notes (or anywhere you can copy text), use Notes Import. You can also scan handwritten recipes with OCR.
Can I edit everything after importing?
Yes. Importing is just a starting point — you can edit the title, ingredients, instructions, and notes before saving (and anytime later).
Notes Import
How do I import recipes from Notes?
Copy your recipe in Apple Notes, then open Notes Import and paste. My Recipe Book organizes it into a clean title, ingredients, and steps.
Pro Tip: How do I get the best results?
Put the recipe title on its own line at the top, then include the link (if there is one), then paste the recipe text. Clear spacing helps the parser.
OCR Scanning
How does OCR Scanning work?
Take a photo of a handwritten recipe card or notebook page. OCR converts it into text, then you can quickly correct anything and save it like any other recipe.
What photos scan best?
Bright light, flat paper, and high contrast ink. Fill the frame, avoid glare, and keep the camera steady.
Shopping Lists
How do Shopping Lists work?
Quick overview:
Shopping Lists give you a shared place to manage groceries inside My Recipe Book. You can create a household, invite people to join, and keep one list everyone can work from instead of juggling texts, notes, and separate apps.
How many people can be in a household?
A household can have up to 6 members. That gives families or small groups one shared space to manage grocery shopping together.
Can other household members add items too?
Yes. Everyone in the household can add items to the shared shopping list, which makes it easy for family members to contribute what is needed.
Can I see who added each item?
Yes. Items on the shopping list show which household member added them and when, so the list stays clear and organized and you always know where something came from.
Why is the shared shopping list useful?
It keeps your grocery planning in one place, reduces confusion, and makes it much easier for households to stay coordinated. Instead of trying to remember who asked for what, the list stays updated and each item is tied to the person who added it and when as well as the person and time it was crossed off.
Backup & Restore
Can I back up my recipe library?
Quick demo:
Yes. Backup & Restore lets you save a full copy of your recipe library so you’re protected if you switch phones or reinstall.
How do I restore a backup?
Quick demo:
Open Settings → Backup & Restore, choose Restore, and select your saved backup file. You’ll be guided step-by-step.
Chef Assist
What is Chef Assist?
Quick demo:
Chef Assist is your rescue button when a recipe is incomplete — especially after importing from a video. When ingredients or instructions are empty, Chef Assist searches the web for the best match based on the recipe title and then fills in the missing details for you.
What does Chef Assist actually do?
Quick demo:
Chef Assist finds the best recipe match for the title and can auto-fill:
- Ingredients
- Instructions
- And a source link (so you can reference where it came from)
Recipe Exchange
How do I publish a recipe from the app?
Open the recipe, tap the Export icon (top right), choose Publish to Recipe Exchange, and tap Publish.
Why are submissions reviewed?
To keep Recipe Exchange clean, high quality, and free of spam.
